Each year the CKWDC plans and completes a number of projects funded in a large part by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities, Employment Ontario Program. Projects are based on community workforce development needs as shown in previous Trends, Opportunities and Priorities Reports, and more recently from the Employment Landscape Report (link to report). Issues are identified and events and projects are planned to help fill the outlined needs.

Careers on Tour: Agriculture and Green Energy – Nov. 2010
Students from area highschools, guidance and co-op teachers toured local businesses in Agriculture and Energy industries and University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus to help promote the wide range of opportunities for young people to stay and build their careers in the C-K area. Participants learned about jobs are available in these fields, what it takes to get hired and promoted in these companies. This year tours will also be held on work sites related to Advanced Manufacturing, Arts & Culture and Health & Wellness.
Job Retention Workshop, October, 2010
Participants were job seekers, employees and employment service providers who learned about what local employers look for when hiring, keeping and promoting employees from business owners and managers themselves! The intent was to help increase employee performance and workforce development, including increasing essential skills and continuous learning. We thank the employers who made this event a success and a valuable learning experience.
Previous Partnership Projects
Annually since 2005, the Chatham Kent Workforce Development Council has organized 4-5 training events to help business, job seekers, youth, educators, and service providers to adapt to changing trends in the workforce and labour market. These are a examples of past projects.
Way To Work Chatham Kent
A free one-day workshop hosted for graduating, workforce bound grade 12 students in order to provide them with resources for local employment supports, effective job search strategies and skills and information that will be useful as they enter the workforce. 107 attended the event inlcuding youth, educators, non-profit organizations and local business and partner organizations.
Effective Employee Retention Practices Chatham Kent
A half-day employee retention symposium for business owners, managers, supervisors and human resource professionals with key note speaker and break-out workshops were held in the Chatham Kent area. 85 people attended the event including employers from numerous labour market sectors (ie: hospitality, manufacturing, non-profit organizations, the service industry etc.)
Sweet Success Workshops
Workplace demands are growing requiring an increase workplace productivity, flexibility and profitability. Employers attended an interactive workshops on building employee capability while increasing the bottom line; and experience first-hand the financial return of investing in employee development through the Sweet Success board game. 25 participated in this event.
Community Consultations - TOPs Reports
The Chatham-Kent Workforce Development Council helped bring together community stakeholders to participate in surveys and focus groups for the development of Trends, Opportunities and Priorities Reports (TOPs). These reports were done regionally to present relevant community workforce data to help with planning by social service agencies, employment programs and educational institutions. Recommendations from the reports have also been used by the Council for project planning.
